A well-established program distributing books to poverty-level school aged children in Austin where the books are theirs to keep.
Unique Learning Center $2,000
A story and book program reaching early and emergent readers in extreme poverty.
VA Dept. of Correctional Education, VA $4,000
A program in Virginias prisons serving incarcerated men and women with limited or no access to career learning materials. This grant added to their rotating collection which is available to a wide prison population, and added career learning materials.

For the purchase of books for this worthwhile Story Lady program reaching early and pre-readers in in-home child care situations.
DC Public Library Foundation, Wash DC $2000
For the purchase of books for their emergent literacy program books kits, which provide resources for over 120 in-home child-care providers, reaching over 360 impoverished children.
DC Public Library Foundation, Wash DC $500
To fund take home books which supplement the Emergent Literacy Kits program. In many cases, this will be the first book the children own.
Desert Area Resources & Training, Ridgecrest, CA $1000
To buy developmentally appropriate books for their preschool serving at risk children. They have had a 100% increase in enrollment in the last year.
Stuart Hall School for Boys, New Orleans, LA $3750
To fund libraries for Pre-K thru 2nd grade classrooms which were destroyed during hurricane Katrina.
Mississippi State University Extension Service $3750
To fund books for this program serving and educating over 140 in-home providers in the most impoverished areas of MS. Over 30 lost all their books and learning materials in Katrina and many more suffered extensive damage.
